Back in the year 1995 when director David Dhawan had got his favourite actor to play a role for happy-go-lucky coolie. A boy who works as a coolie and then falls for a rich girl. The arrogant dad of the rich girl wants a rich and good qualified for his beloved daughter, but the boy being and doing a job of coolie is the obstacle, but no daddy character in the Bollywood industry can stand in the way of true love and agree with her. That movie was a loud comedy and song-dance.
The movie had some of the great actors like Dhawan, Govinda, Karisma, Kader Khan and also Shakti Kapoor. The combination of all of these gave us a film of its times, The movie was laden with a lot of gags bordering and also dubious lyrics. This movie turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the year. After this we also got great movie like Rangeela, and DDLJ.
As we all know Govinda has a heart of gold and so he was a man of spot. At that time this great hero had carried off pretty much everything, whether it was off-colour jokes, crimson-coloured suits that he worn in the movie, and no one in the industry could take his plac, not even his pretty leading ladies.
But the time when that movie got released was centuries back and it looks like the filmmakers of that time have forgotten that the world has changed right now. So same has Bollywood, when you see Varun Dhawan doing various roles and recreating a lot of roles, now he has channelled Govinda in many of his.
He has also tread almost the same path as that of the other actors. But in this movie that he created he was mouthing almost the same lines as they were in the old version of the movie, there’s no laughter, no comedy and only despair.
Minor changes that are done in this movie do not make new freshness. The earlier Coolie film was set up in a village: Karisma was the main lead actress and she was more like a ghaghra and gaon-ki-gori, Govinda who was the main lead actor wanted to set up a cement factory as shown in the movie. In this recreation, the gaon was changed, the destination of the set also changed and it become Goa. Instead of a factory, this time a port was taken and Sara Ali Khan who is the lead actress in this movie is a city girl.
But the silliness is that this movie was executed in a rat – a-tat speed and this was something that David Dhawan used to do so well but it was missing in this movie.
The time when the construction was done on a paper plot base has been long gone. It is painful to see the actors doing some jerky scenes and also making terrible laugh tracks. Varun and Sara were also seen dancing in this movie to the most popular songs of that time and one of them was Tujhko mirchi lagi toh main kya karoon. After listening and seeing this song it take you straight back to the OG and gives you memories of the old movie.
The only one who makes a perfect place of his character was the one that was played by Kader Khan in the original the original movie, which is played by Paresh Rawal. The review for this movie was not that great and the actors too did not got a great approach.
People say that they can do with laughter in these dark times of the pandemic, but not like this and not like that which is done in the movie. The people said that the movie has zero wit and also no flair.
