U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and his family will adhere to the highest ethical standards, his spokesman said, confirming that it was White House policy that his name should not be used in connection with any trade.
The statement comes in the wake of media reports that the White House has asked Meena Harris, the vice-president’s nephew, to stop “using his aunt to magnify his name”.
“The Deputy President and his family will adhere to the highest ethical standards and it is White House policy that the name of the Deputy President should not be used in connection with any commercial activities that could be understood to mean approval or support,” Sabrina Singh, Deputy Deputy Secretary for Information, told PTI.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the White House has asked Meena Harris not to “make a name for himself” using the name of the US Vice President.
After Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election, attorneys for the change of behavior group told Meena Harris that she could no longer produce clothes or write new letters with her or her aunt’s name, a White House official who did not name a name.
According to a daily newspaper, the White House official said “Deputy Aunty Vice President’s” jerseys, Ms Harris-themed swimsuits and other previously sold products were not permitted under current laws.
Meena Harris did not respond to a question posted on social media.
After Kamala Harris became the Vice President of the United States of America, his nephew was in several news reports.
“The problem @meena goes global” wrote Politico last week. A news report accused Meena Harris of meddling in India’s internal politics.
“A series of his (Meena) posts have helped spark controversy in the Indian government and some of his supporters, adding an unexpected alliance to India’s relations with the US, as Biden seeks to meet with world leaders,” Politico reported.
The White House, however, described the tweets as expressing the views of an independent citizen.
“What is happening in India is shocking,” Meena Harris said in one of her latest tweets in India as she rewrote news of the arrest of weather activist Disha Ravi.
In recent weeks, there has been a sudden outbreak of tweets targeting India by Meena Harris. He also came out in support of farmers protesting against the recent agricultural laws and arrests of related people.
According to sources, the White House believes his tweets are less likely to have an impact on India’s relations with the US, which Biden officials put far ahead.
