Haridwar 20-year-old Shrishti Goswami took over as Uttarakhand’s prime minister for one day on Sunday. He gave three key points – the safety of children and girls, the monitoring of drug use among the youth and the halt to hill-state migration.
Goswami, at a national children’s day event on Sunday, made his suggestions during a children’s meeting while interacting with officials at Dehradun.
Prime Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said appointing Goswami as prime minister for a one-day children’s conference and organizing a session of the state legislature on national girls’ day is a matter of pride and respect for all girls in government. Rawat said the programs would help the girls find their identity. “These programs will encourage them to fulfill their responsibilities to the community. Our girls shine in various fields and I wish Goswami well but for her bright future, ”she said.
Goswami, a B.Sc agricultural student at Roorkee-based institute, who figuratively held the position of state CM for one day, reviewed various development programs run by the government after officials made representations before him.
He was elected in honor of being elected prime minister at the ‘Bal Vidhan Sabha’ (children’s state conference) exhibition at a symbolic event organized by the state commission in 2018 to protect children’s rights and help children understand the democratic process.
Goswami, speaking to reporters, said he had made a number of important proposals, especially on ensuring the safety of children and girls, addressing drug use among youth and preventing the migration of hills in the province.
She said that as a CM, her priority was children-related issues as she knew what kind of problems they were facing. These proposals will be presented to the State Child Rights Commission which will be forwarded to the CM.
In an episode similar to that of Anil Kapoor who plays Bollywood movie star ‘Nayak’, Goswami said, “That’s weird and this is true. I was so happy that it really happened. And I have to thank our CM Trivendra Singh Rawat for this, ”he said
When asked if he would like to join politics in the future, he said he was already part of the children’s conference. She also said that If the opportunity arises in the future, why not, she can join the politics too.
Goswami said he also raised the issue of girls’ safety while attending college. She had also asked the DGP to make sure the girls feel safe when they go to college and come home.
Higher Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat had earlier welcomed Goswami and other members of the children’s assembly to the state legislature. Rawat later presented him and other members with a certificate of union for children recognizing their participation in the special event.
Pravin Goswami, her father said she was very proud that this was the first time a girl had been honored as the country’s CM.
