Typhoon Yaas, which carried winds of up to 130-145 kmph, hit the east coast of the country on Wednesday, causing heavy rains, damaging homes and fields, leaving at least four people dead - three in Odisha and one in Bangal - officials said.

IMD : Cyclone Yaas may cause maximum damage in Chandbali. On Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday a strong typhoon Yaas could fall between Dhamra and Chandbali areas in the Odisha region of Badrak on Wednesday. The Yaas is likely to start with a severe storm on Tuesday evening and Chandbali is likely to see significant damage, said IMD director-general Mrrutyunjay Mohapatra.

The IMD said that a yellow warning has been issued in Odisha and West Bengal after Hurricane 'Yaas' slowed to the northwest and was likely to intensify the storm within 12 hours.
