Ajinkya Rahane won many fans with his brilliant captain when the Indian team defeated Australia but he would like to make it very clear that the team’s undisputed leader is Virat Kohli and he is happy to fill in if needed.
Coming on February 5, Rahane will also be the vice-captain of the Test team that will face England and Kohli will return to the chair. So things will be different now if he donates the captain’s hat again?
“Nothing has changed. Virat has been the captain of the Test team and I will always be his deputy. During his absence it has been my job to lead the side and my job to give my best to Team India’s success,” Rahane, who was on her way to Chennai.
With a deputy captain, it was not about being in a hot seat but having the ability to play a role in perfection that is so important.
“It’s not just about being a captain. The way you play the role of captain is the most important thing. So far I’ve been successful. I hope, and tomorrow I’ll try to give this kind of results to my team,” said Dr. a man, who led his country to four victories in five Tests.
Reflecting on her relationship with Kohli, Rahane said it has always been smooth.
He said that Virat and him has always shared a good relationship between them. He has also praised his beating. They both have played memorable knocks in their team in India and also overseas. It has just helped Virat get to No.4 and him at No.5.
Their relationship is based on recognition and respect.
“We’ve always supported each other’s game. When we’re in the crease, we talk about conversations about the ball being thrown by the opposing team. We warn each other whenever one of us plays too fast.”
And how do you get Kohli as captain?
“Virat is a sharp captain. He makes good decisions on the pitch. Whenever the spinners work, he bankes me and believes that taking what is caught (Ravichandran) Ashwin and (Ravindra) Jadeja is one of my potential areas of skill.
“Virat expects a lot from me and I’m trying to make sure I don’t let him down,” said Rahane, who has 13 goals left to score 100 Test appearances as an outsider.
Rahane’s inclusion in the Melbourne Test classes, according to head coach Ravi Shastri, was part of the change.
After going through difficult situations a few years ago, do you feel safe with his place on the Test side now?
Mumbaikar said that to be honest, he have never felt that his side was always in danger. The captains and the team management have always had faith in him
Rahane believes in the old adage that the form is temporary but the stage is permanent.
He said that sometimes in a few series, a player needs to knock once only to get back to his form.
He said that when he went through a bad boat, his captain encouraged him. It’s always comforting to know that they are supported and also focused on giving their best without worrying.
People saw a lot of “leader” in Rahane but he underestimated his role.
In terms of leadership, he says that he can only say that it varies from person to person. The captain is like his team. If you win a game or a series, it is always an effort to participate and not because of the contribution of one person.
He also said that the ultimate credit for this winning series belongs to his team.
