Joe Biden, Kamala Harris named TIME magazine’s ‘2020 Person of the Year’

The now elected US President Joe Biden and along with him the first Asian Vice President- Kamala Harris. They both have now been named as the ‘2020 Person of the Year’ by the TIME magazine as its for changing the American story.

For changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are a lot greater than the furies of division and for sharing their vision that will help healing in a world that is grieving, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the TIME’s 2020 Person of the Year.

Donald Trump was considered a force for disruption and division for the past four years. Biden and Harris show where the nation will be now heading: a blend of ethnicities, lived experiences and worldviews that must find a way forward together.

The Vice president tweeted on 11th Dec, Friday saying that he is  honoured to be the Person of the Year with his Vice President Kamala Harris and he is grateful to be on this list with so many other extraordinary folks around the world.

Biden wrote that From front line workers to the racial justice organisers, Americans have met this year with strength and  fortitude and will have a belief in a brighter tomorrow.

In response to this, Harris said it was an honour to be named at TIME’s Person of the Year with the honoured President-elect JoeBiden.

This Indian – American Vice President – Kamala Harris said that We’re at a moment where we’re being confronted by multiple crises that have occurred. He also said that they have a lot we need to handle in the upcoming days but he knows that together we can get it done.

TIME magazine chose 78-year-old Biden, one of the oldest persons to be selected for the annual honour.

Biden calls himself as a bridge to a new generation of leaders. He embraced choosing Kamala Harris who is of 56yrs as the Vice – President, the first woman on a winning presidential ticket, daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother.

TIME noted that the US Vice President has never before been any woman, or Black, or a Asian American.

On this Kamala said that she might be the first, but she will not be the last. She also said that it’s about legacy and it’s about creating a pathway and it’s about leaving the door more open than it was when you walked in.

TIME magazine said that every elected President back at time from Franklin Delano Roosevelt has at some or the other point during his term been a Person of the Year and nearly a dozen of those in a presidential election year.

They said that this is the first time we have included a Vice President. TIME said that in the past  year that made us see an epic struggle for racial justice, as a result of the election in the history , but now the Biden-Harris partnership sends a powerful message to the people of America.

Talking about this election, Kamala Harris, said that it is regardless of your race, your ethnicity, the language you and your family speaks, she said to let’s move forward knowing and understanding that the majority of us have more in common than what separates us.
