Born in Madhya Pradesh in 1945, the poet-songwriter Javed Akhtar is 76 years old on Sunday. Javed has been honored and has been awarded with the Sahitya Akademi Award in the year 2013, Padma Shri in the year 1999 and also Padma Bhushan in the year 2007, and has won five National Film Awards. Last year, he received the Richard Dawkins Award.
After writing short film interviews, Javed met Salim Khan of Andaz and Adhikar in 1971. Together, the two continue to make a name for themselves, not just for themselves, but for the entire community of writers. While Rajesh Khanna was praised for giving them their dignity, Amitabh Bachchan’s Sholay (1975) was their work that defined the work.
Of the 24 films they wrote, only four failed in the box. The author’s duo, popularly known as Salim-Javed, split in 1982, after a dispute broke out between them.
In addition to writing some of the biggest blockbusters in Bollywood, including Sholay, Javed Akhtar also has a rich bank of couplets and poems that are not used in films, but are equally amazing.
