Doha to host 2030 Asian Games, Riyadh 2034 edition: Olympic Council of Asia

As announced, Doha will be hosting the 2030 Asian Games. The Olympic Council of Asia announced on 16th December, Wednesday while Riyadh was named as a host of the game for the year 2034 edition under a compromise which is agreed between the rivals.

An executive board meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia accepted the proposal of naming the runner-up in the two-horse race for the year 2030 games as the 2034 hosts.

The decision means that Qatar will play host to the multi-sport event. It will be eight years after it organizes the football World Cup finals in the year 2022.
OCA president Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said that he can now announce that the city which had the highest vote and who will be hosting the 2030 game is Doha. The second hosting city, for the games in 2034, is Riyadh.

Voting was delayed by few hours because of some technical problems with the online system. Sheikh Ahmad said that he apologises for the technical problem that are being faced during the voting.  He also said that today the difficult things have been solved and the easy things have been made as the problems.

Sheikh Ahmad added that he will be glad to have two games in west Asia. Out from the votings casted and according to the official count, twenty-seven votes went to Doha, 10 to Riyadh and eight were abstentions.

Saudi and Qatar are into a bitter dispute after an alliance of countries that was led by Riyadh and that cut diplomatic.

Qatar denies the charges. There has been progress to restore the friendly relations and the dispute in recent weeks with all sides praising the Kuwaiti-led mediation.
After the vote, the OCA’s president said that he was seeking and looking for a win-win situation for Doha and Riyadh.
Doha was the one who hosted the Asian Games in the year 2006 while Saudi Arabia has never organised an OCA multi-sport event till now.

Qatar Olympic Committee chief Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani said ahead of their votes that their goal is pretty simple. They want to see more Asian athletes in the future, on future Olympic podiums.
He said that they want that to be part of our national sports history, not just theirs. And they want to support us in the efforts to get there.

Qatar will also participating in the bidding process for the year 2032 summer Olympics. A video was out which showed the Qatar’s raft of sporting and the transport infrastructure which is being prepared ahead of the year 2022 World Cup that would be repurposed for the 2030 games. The games will have a $1.3 billion budget.
Qatar’s ruler Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani tweeted saying that they are happy with their own win to host the 2030 Asian Games.

They tweeted saying that Doha2030… embodies Qatar’s sports mission as a means to enhance the communication as well as the human and cultural understanding.

The Doha bid team said that the 90 percent of the infrastructure for the 2030 games was already set in place. Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal Al-Saud  who is the President of Saudi’s Olympic Committee said that when they say the games are a national priority, they mean it.

He said that It has unwavering political and public support and also that Sport has changed social life especially for women.
Prince Abdulaziz pointed out and showed the Saudi’s hosting for the major boxing clashes and also the planning for next year’s Formula 1 as proof for the kingdom’s readiness for the Asian Games.
