Detention arbitrary, eligible for compensation, says UN panel on Safoora Zargar. About 200 terrorists are operating in Jammu and Kashmir while intelligence reports suggest another 250 are waiting to hand out leaflets across the border, Jammu’s director general and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh said on Saturday.
Speaking openly about Pakistan, Singh said security forces are living on the issue and are vigilant in order to thwart the evil plans of the neighboring country to disrupt peace in the union area.
The DGP also said that all necessary security measures would be taken to ensure that Amarnath Yatra south of the Kashmir Himalayan, scheduled to begin on June 28, was peaceful.
Speaking to reporters before opening a sports rally between police headquarters here, Singh said there were about 200 terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that he is hopeful that this number will continue to decline this year as much as last year when this number dropped significantly.
Of the number of terrorists presenting pads across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), the police chief said that according to intelligence, the number was between 200 and 250, almost the same as in previous years.
“We are watching them too,” he said.
Responding to a question about the preparations for Amarnath Yatra, he said, “All arrangements for this trip will be made as in previous years including deployment (security) at various levels.”
“Once again this year, our efforts are ongoing and all necessary arrangements for the safety and security of travelers will be put in place,” he added.
Apart from naming Pakistan, he said organizations from neighboring countries have been involved in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir for the past more than 30 years to disrupt peace and damage people’s lives.
“We have been unable to carry out their evil plans and will continue to do so,” he said when asked about the acquisition of 91 lakhs by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from the Samba region after one of the five people arrested in connection with the Handwara narco-terrorism case was identified.
The DGP said police had uncovered a number of terrorism cases in 2020 and 2021 and each was investigating to expose the conspiracy and bring back the perpetrators.
He said that Some cases had a high level of interaction between terrorists and narco dealers who were referred to the NIA. These cases are also fully addressed.
Singh said apart from the drugs, weapons including the use of improper use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), smuggled from across the border, were seized before falling into the hands of terrorists and used to fight people and security forces.
“There are few incidents here and there but after the investigation the suspects are found and serious action is taken,” he said, confirming that appropriate action should be taken against the terrorists involved in the Sopore bombing that left two police officers injured.
The police chief said the correct response was given to all acts of intimidation.
Asked about the recent discovery of grenades, he said such types of explosives are dangerous because they have gravity and can be caught on any metal.
He also said that this is a conspiracy to target public transport and safety. We have seized such bombs and if some of them have been able to reach the terrorists, we will find them, referring to the discovery of a 7 kg IED in Jammu on February 14 and the explosion of a terrorist module in the Awantipora area south of Kashmir.
A police official said that the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police station. He said he wanted to make sure that any activity, whether underground or underground, was under scrutiny. We are watching them closely.
At the Inter zone 2020 sports conference, the DGP said all six sections of the army had participated in the tournament.
He also said that about 1000 police officers, covering all police units, took part in 30 sports matches during the tournament. He hopes that the police are doing their job satisfactorily in all spheres and that they will show a homosexual spirit in sports during the tournament.
