Centre finalising shipping facilities for India’s vaccination drive

India’s immunization campaign, the world’s largest vaccine campaign against Covid-19, will begin on January 16 with a focus on about 30 million health care providers and emergency workers.

The officials said on Sunday a that the government of India prepares to start vaccinating key groups with the health minister of the department is now finalizing the arrangements for the shipment of approved vaccines for coronavirus from the manufacturers to state-of-the-art facilities in partnership with the Department of Public Aviation.

India’s immunization campaign, the world’s largest vaccine campaign against Covid-19, will begin on January 16 with a focus on about 30 million health care providers and emergency workers. The government plans to vaccinate another 270 million people in six to eight months.

Manohar Agnani who is the additional seceratary of the health department as the minister of Health in India reviewed the headlines and also said that the arrangements are being made to deliver the vaccine after orders are issued in the coming days without delay. Vaccination of vaccines is guaranteed from government vaccines stores to cold storage areas for all provinces and union areas.

The Department of Finance has so far approved ₹ 480 crore for operating costs of this program. Agnani also said that the funds are also being disbursed to the provinces according to the beneficiary’s responsibility to fund the operating costs of the first 10 million beneficiaries.

As of January 9, data on about eight million health care workers are registered with CoWIN, a digital platform to monitor vaccine status.

The Drug Controller General of India has also approved the emergency use of the two injections – Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield, which is locally produced by the Serum Institute of India, and the Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, which has been used to prevent the emergency use in “clinical trial mode”.

The Union Department of Health on Sunday hosted a video conference with representatives of the country to review the effectiveness of the CoWIN software that forms the backbone of vaccine storage.

The meeting that was held was chaired by Ram Sewak Sharma, he is also the chairman of the Covid-19-based technology and data management team and a member of The National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration of Covid-19. He said that there will be no representatives to prove the authenticity of Aadhaar. He also said that It is very important to clearly the identify of the person who are being vaccinated and also to keep a digital record of them all.

As part of preparations for the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccine nationwide, the Department of Health on Sunday hosted a video conference with officials from the provinces and Union Unions to discuss the response to the Co-WIN software and its use collected from dried vaccines.

The institute on Sunday said Co-WIN, an online platform to monitor the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine, would form the basis of an anti-coronavirus inoculation drive that would target citizens so that the drug could be available anytime and anywhere. India will launch its Covid-19 immunization campaign from 16th January. This is what the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called the world’s largest transit plan to give a priority to the near to about three million health workers and paramedics.

Sharma quoted saying that the process must be community based and also it should be built in such a way that the vaccine will be available anywhere and anytime.

Regarding the use of the Aadhaar platform, Sharma advised the provinces to urge beneficiaries to sow their current Aadhaar number in order to register and communicate the following results via SMS.
